The plan for building up the Apartheid Partition Wall was approved on April 2002
during a private meeting for the mini Council of Cabinet, and this was put in
operation on June 2002 after
Sharon took over Israel Premiership
The height of the wall in the first phase reaches 115 km north of West Bank, and it should reach 350 km South of Jerusalem in its final phase
The wall was pushed away 6 km in depth to the east of the green borderline at the expense of the Palestinian lands
12% of the overall size of the wall was taken out from Qalqylia province. There will be 20,000,000 sq.m. of Qalqylia’s rich arable lands of various olives, citrus fruits, fruits, vegetables, and cereals to be removed.
Building up this wall will seize 10% of the lands in West Bank with area of 160,000,000 sq.m.-180,000,000 sq.m. There will be 30 artesian wells isolated behind in Qalqylia and Tulkarem which production capacity reaches 3.8 million cup/ year, especially that Qalqylia and Tulkarem provinces are located on the Western Basin that include 52% of overall water size in West Bank. This means the Palestinians will loose 18% of their part of water in this Basin, which reaches 22 million cup/year out of 362 million cup according to Oslo agreement.
The number of isolated wells in Qalqylia province is 22 million well (and its production capacity reaches 2361000 million cup/ year). The villages which will be isolated behind the wall in Qalqylia and Tulkarem provinces starts from Nazlet Issa to north and south Al-Ramadeen Arabs, Azbat Sulaiman, Jaloud, and Azoun Atma. The number of villages that will be isolated in Qalqylia province reaches 15 villages. The number of harmed farmers in Qalqylia province reaches 10,000.
More than 35,000 meter of the agriculture irrigation network was destroyed. 10,000,000 sq.m. of arable lands were washed out. 83,000 various plants of olives and citrus were pulled out.
The width of the wall varies from 60 to 150 meter in some of the locations it will cross. The length reaches 8 meters. The following can be added to the above:
1-Agriculture
The wall will lead to drop in the agricultural production of olives at the rate of 2200 ton/ year, fruits at the rate of 50 ton/ year, and vegetables at the rate of 100,000 ton/ year. Also, it will cause drop in the animal production, there will be 10,000 animals to loose their pasture.
The rate of the irrigated arable lands equal 5% from the overall area of West Bank and it participates in the agriculture production at the rate of 52%, the north is considered one of the most important parts where Qalqylia lost 8600,000 sq.m. (72% of its irrigated arable lands)
2-Environment
The number of various trees that were cut off since the start of Intifada reaches million trees, of which 83,000 tree were olives. This will cause harm to the Palestinian environment: air pollution, noise, and the impact on the beauty aspect. It will also uncover the soil to some extend, lead to flow in the superficiality, and affect the underground water and the basin.
3-Economic Status
The curfew and the cut down in the agriculture resource led to increase in the unemployment rate by adding 35% more (those who were depending on agriculture for living). The destroy of the industrial and economical infrastructure led to having the capital in these sectors taken away from the city
This lead us to conclude that the main goal for Israel to build this wall is to break up the continuity of Palestine and its inhabitants, and in return more settlements will be reinforced in West Bank which will be linked together with a very fast and advanced road network and infrastructure
Jayyous town and its inhabitants have encountered a third disaster and a new
occupation by unfair and unjust enemy who hate a nation that has a history and a
civilization. For years this
hatred enemy is trying hard to beat and abandon Jayyous inhabitants, and at last
he is trying to force them to vacate their lands to wipe out its landmarks and
its national identity. In other words, he wants to drop Jayyous from the map
and attach terrorism to our religion in all immoral and inhuman means in order
to take in more arable lands. He is using fake political slogans used on the
media to shed tears of the While House and the hypocrite Europe.
The occupation forces seized for the partition wall: 9,000,000 sq.m. arable lands, 2,000,000 sq.m. arable irrigated lands, more than 6,000 olive trees (eldest tree age more than 700 years and smallest age 50 years), all citrus and fruits & vegetables, and 7 artesian wells. This was done as an excuse to provide security to the Israelis. This caused the town a huge loss of more than $130 million, loss of lands which are the inhabitants only mean of living, and the loss of more than 1,000 labors who were working on the arable lands. This caused a drop in the town’s economy, and the animal wealth due to the loss of the pastures. Also, the town encounters continuous break in and curfew that had a negative impact on all the production sectors especially the education because of schools’ closing.
Jayyous inhabitants have expressed their resistance and objection to the
building of the Apartheid Partition Wall for the last two years. Various
organizations in the town have to address invitations to the different media
means, delegations representing their countries and regime, many political
parties,
and
delegations who were and still sympathetic with the Palestinians. Also, they
have filed a complaint to the supreme court of justice.
This wall presents a new form of occupation: looting Jayyous lands and the underground water, killing the animals, and preventing the inhabitants to reach their farms which forced them to quit work and loose their only mean of living. This approach is not new to the Israeli government but it is an extension to their continuous plans and approaches to immigrate the inhabitants. The occupation approaches and the inhabitants’ suffering have never stopped since 1948. What is called the Partition Wall is nothing but big prisons that lock up a whole nation and separate between the inhabitant and his family, parents, land, etc
Jayyous inhabitants and the daily suffering/ Gates:
The inhabitants make a daily journey to their farms since agriculture is the
only thing they are skillful in (the rate of farmers is 85%), they have
inherited these journeys like they inherited their lands. They used to work in
their farms day and night and may spent days and months without fences
or
military obstacles, and suddenly without an alert, they were prevented from
entering their own lands. Armored ferric gates with barbwire and cement walls
were put which looks like crossing a new country’s border. When they are
allowed to enter, they are forced to complicated procedures applied by the
occupation forces where they get hit and arrested and best case scenario they
have to wait long hours during the heat in summer and the coldness in winter to
get the permission to pass. The journey sometimes starts the moment they arrive
the gate when the farmers can not take these complicated procedures anymore and
they get into confrontation with the occupational forces who use live
ammunition, rubber bullets, sticks, and tear gases to beat and arrest the
farmers.
After the permission is obtained to cross the gates another tough journey is awaiting them. The farmers are prevented to carry their fruits and vegetables after being picked. Sometimes, their primitive transportation means become subject to inspection many times and maybe they should carry out their loads to other cars if some cars are not allowed to cross. Also, the occupation forces may take other procedures such as preventing the farmers who are below 25 or 38 and women from crossing. Later the occupation forces asked the farmers to obtain permissions form the territory Israeli commander to facilitate entry to their lands. But the occupation forces surprised the inhabitants again when it prevented the infants, deaths, immigrants, and lands’ owners who work for their lands from obtaining such permissions. The more irony thing is that they provided permissions to those who need to enter the Israeli cities but not to those who need to enter their lands. This all happens without any feeling of shame and in spite of the interface from some international organizations that look after human rights such as Red Cross and UN assembly
